The Canary Islands: Fires of Creation

The interplay between water and molten rock – the way one cools as the other scorches – gave rise to mountain peaks on the ocean floor that created the Canary Islands. Every day at noon, guests at The Ritz-Carlton, Abama may honor the island’s origins by lighting a candle for each of the seven main islands.

Welcome to Kazakhstan: Let’s Eat

Every culture has its own way of welcoming guests, many of which center around food. At The Ritz-Carlton, Almaty, guests are greeted every evening with a richly arrayed table of goodies including tiny balls of fried dough called baursaks – one of Kazakhstan’s national pastries – which bring to mind zeppole or beignets.

Laguna Niguel’s Ocean Inspirations

Salt Creek Beach, long a mecca for surfers and spongers, truly shines during the golden hour. To honor the sun sinking seaward, every day a group of Ladies and Gentlemen from The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel splash onto the scene in an orchestrated surf performance, slicing the glossy waves while guests take in the spectacular view.

Rhythm of the Sea: A Dance of Thanks

Every Ritz-Carlton property has its own moment to honor its area’s traditions. At The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi, six dancers gather on the shore every Thursday at sunset to offer a dance of thanks to the sea called Tarian Payang.

From Russia With Love

Every evening at 6 p.m. at The Ritz-Carlton, Moscow, a 500-year-old tradition comes to life. Women donning sarafans, colorful folk costumes topped by kokoshnik headdresses, offer a warm Russian welcome: an intricately designed freshly baked loaf of bread served with salt, a customary gift for special guests that signifies a wish for prosperity and protection from harm.

Xi’An: The Welcome of the Stars

Every dusk at The Ritz-Carlton, Xi’an, a celestial ceremony takes place. A traditional curved horn is blown thrice in a distinguished welcome to visitors, after which a maiden seated at a fireplace strums a pipa, the pear-shaped instrument that came to China via the Silk Road. A proclamation then follows ("The night is on!") and local refreshments usher in guests – and an inspiring evening.
